Germany Arrests Former Footballer on Terrorist Charges

After a 2017 sentence, Deniz Naki has been rearrested for ties with PKK, a terrorist group operating in Turkey and Syria.

Former St. Paul and Amedspor footballer was arrested on Thursday in Germany for criminal charges that includes drug trafficking and and extortion.

Naki was found guilty in 2017 for sharing terrorist propaganda in Turkey and was sentenced to a year and 22 days in prison. 

He has been accused of blackmail and funding a criminal organization for profit in Aachen, a German city.

The German-born was arrested alongside another whose details are yet to be released and it was confirmed that they were sympathizers of PKK.

There are suspicions that Naki also funded the PKK but those charges have no evidence to back them up yet. 

The 31-year-old played for Bayer Leverkusen, a German club and the St. Pauli and Paderborn clubs including the Turkish Super Lig Club Genclerbirligi and Amedspor.

He was banned from playing in Turkey after his 2017 sentence.

Chelsea Sends Lampard Packing

Almost a year to the completion of his contract as senior coach with Chelsea, Frank Lampard was relieved of his duties on Monday.

After a successful game on Sunday for Chelsea, Lampard was called off the pitch after a 30 minutes meeting at Stamford Bridge on Monday Morning.

The former Chelsea midfielder was appointed senior coach in July 2019 for Chelsea on a 3-year contract. He was formerly managing Derby count before his appointment at Chelsea.

Lampard began his Football career in 1995 and was first signed into Chelsea in 2001 and stayed there until 2014.

The 42-year-old was reconned as the only midfielder in nine players to have scored 150 or more goals in the Premier League.

Critics blamed the signings of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner as one of the many poor choices of Lampard that culminated in his sacking.

He will be replaced by Thomas Tuchel by Wednesday.

UK Awards Hamilton with Knighthood

Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has been knighted in UK’s New Year honour list.

He earned the 2020 Formula 1 champion title in November by winning the Turkish Grand Prix, Istanbul. He confirmed his 7th title in the Turkish GP to be equivalent to F1’s legend, Michael Schumacher’s record.

Hamilton acquired 95 Grand Prix victories to exceed Schumacher’s record of 91 championships in this discipline.

Hamilton surpassed Michael’s chronicle in the Portuguese Grand Prix held in October, 2020.

Lewis, the 2020 Formula 1 victor has had a Knight Bachelor rank in New Year’s Honours Overseas and International List 2021.

He deserves the title over his excellent performances in the Formula 1.

PSG Sacks Manager after 2 Years

In the 127 matches he managed PSG in, Thomas Tuchel won 95, lost 20 and had a draw in 12 matches.

Leading French Football Club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has dismissed the services of German manager, Thomas Tuchel.

In a statement, the club said it terminated the contract with Tuchel after two years after analyzing his sporting performance.

The 47-year-old was hired by PSG in 2018 and has won 95 out of 127 matches PSG played. He also led the club to win the French top-flight division Ligue 1 twice (2019 and 2020).

PSG lost the win of the last UEFA Champions League final season to Bayern Munich with a 1-0 match in Lisbon.

The club came third in that tournament and while Lyon came third and Bayern Munich came first.
